You don't always have to travel for hours to get away from it all.

The Westin Melbourne hotel, in the heart of the city (and next to the ever-changing city square), offers accommodation packages designed to pamper and indulge.

The hotel features a modern chic interior, designed by Sue Carr.

The hotel has spent 12 months reviewing bedding, claiming it now has ``arguably the best bed in the hospitality industry".

The so-called heavenly beds have been popular - in 2001 more than 200 guests liked their beds so much they bought one for home. The hotel also boasts what it calls the wellness centre, which comprises a lap pool, spa, steam room, sauna and gymnasium.

At $299 per couple, Movers & Shakers is the cheapest package, providing two nights' accommodation with complimentary martinis. More recently, the hotel introduced Chic Retreat, which includes a one-hour massage, either in the guest's room or private-treatment room, as well as a bath gift and discounts in nearby boutiques. Prices start at $405 per couple.

If you fancy a romantic weekend, the Do Not Disturb package may suit. Included is a choice of luxury balcony room, studio or suite, complete with views of the city and two-person spas. Sparkling wine and handmade chocolates on arrival are followed by breakfast in bed the next morning. These packages start from $415 per couple.

As a major Comedy Festival sponsor, the Westin has also got into the spirit by creating martinis including the Dickwit, named after Frank Woodley's show, and the Jagged Little Wil, after the Wil Anderson's stand-up gig of the same name. These are available from the Westin's Martini Bar for $10.

THE DETAILS

The Westin Melbourne is at 205 Collins Street, Melbourne city. All packages include parking, breakfast and access to the wellness centre. For more information phone 9635 2222 or visit www.westin.com.au

On Saturday, in A2, The Age published an incorrect price for the Movers & Shakers package at The Westin Melbourne hotel. It should have read $299 per night, per couple. The error was made by the reporter.
