AT last, the secret is out. Women buy luxurious underwear to pamper themselves.

And there's nothing wrong with that, according to Denise Dumbrell, the new owner of Peppers Lingerie at Neutral Bay.

"Women feel great when they are wearing something lacy," she said, displaying some silky undergarments for your intrepid male reporter as he trembled with embarrassment.

Ms Dumbrell applied the pressure.

"We have briefs, teddies, bras, G-strings, hosiery, pure silk sleepwear and pure cotton nighties for older women.

"Sports bras are popular today, probably because so many women work out in gymnasiums and play sport to keep fit."

Ms Dumbrell has completed special training courses for the fitting of bras, and is happy to assist customers when making a choice.

"It is very important to buy bras that fit properly," she said. "Many women unwittingly wear bras of the wrong style and size."

Designer labels at Peppers include Warners, Lovable, Fayreform and Berlei.

Gift vouchers are available at the shop, solving a problem for men who like their partners to be stylishly dressed - all over.
